MIST swimmers Matt Hinman, Camden Pierce, Jordan Nuzback and Mary Claire Stark win in Buffalo

Matt Hinman won four events in the 8 and under age group at the STAR Winter Challenge in Buffalo. Hinman won the 50 free, 25 back, 50 back and 100 breaststroke. Camden Pierce won the 8 and under 25 breaststroke and 25 free and placed third in the 100 free. In the 11-12 age group, Mary Claire Stark won the 50 breaststroke and placed fourth in the 100 free.  Jordan Nuzback won the 11-12 50 free and placed second in both the 100 free and the 100 backstroke.
     Deacon Pierce was fourth in the 6 and under 25 free and sixth in the 100 free. Lexi Pierce was fourth in the 11-12 50 breaststroke. Jacob Carstater placed fourth in the 9-10 100 butterfly and took a pair of fifth places in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke. Among 7-8 year olds, Kamri Oler was fifth in the 25 back and ninth in the 50 back. 
     John Paul Stark swam a personal best 1:08.89 to place third in the 13-14 age 100 breaststroke. He was fifth in the 50 fly and tied for tenth in the 100 free with teammate Eric Marn. Their identical 57.11's were best times for both. Marn was also fourth in the 50 back and ninth in the 50 fly.

Former MIST and McDowell swimmers dominate Quad

Congratulations to former MIST (and sometimes current MIST) and McDowell swimmer Dan Pierce on winning the Men's Overall Quad Championship.  Dan's combined times for all four discipline was 1 hour and 53:14.1 giving him his sixth overall title. 
     Former McDowell swimmer Pamela McCormick won the Women's Overall title in 2:04:27.8 for her seventh overall championship. 
    Former McDowell swimmer Nancy Herbst won the ski event (the final event) and finished third overall among women. 
     Former McDowell and MIST swimmers and current MIST coach Nikki Pierce won her age group overall and daughter Lexi Pierce (and current MIST swimmer) won her age group. 

Cleveland State hosts January 18 meet

MIST members may be interested in competing at the Turn Up The Heat Meet at Cleveland State University on January 18.  Information on this meet is available at the MIHS pool. There are no qualifying times so this is a good meet for any of our swimmers who need qualifying times for subsequent B and A meets. This meet will fill up soon, so we will send our entries soon. Get your entries to Coach Schultz before our Christmas break.

Official High School Swimming & Diving season starts Nov. 17

Official practices for McDowell Swimming and Diving start on Monday, Nov. 17 at 2:30 at the MIHS pool. All paperwork, including physicals (or Section 7 re-certification) must have been submitted by that date, Forms may be presented to Coach Schultz at practice. No one is permitted in the water without all forms signed. 
    Activity fees must be paid to the office once the official team roster is announced. 
    Mandatory practices for swimmers are after school Mondays through Fridays and Saturday mornings from 7:30-11:00 a.m. Diving practices are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 6:45-8:45 p.m.; Fridays 4:45-7 p.m., and Saturdays 9:30-11:00 a.m.
